We are pleased to have contributed to the development of the ASEAN Framework on Cross-border Cloud Computing, successfully completed by the Asian Business Law Institute (ABLI) as consultant and endorsed at the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting in January 2026. As cloud usage accelerates, the Framework responds to the pressing need for an interoperable governance framework to ensure trusted and secure development in accordance with the law. The Framework sets out ASEAN-wide General Principles on cross-border data flows and protection of exported data and introduces the concept of a Trusted Data Corridor to enable secure and seamless cloud adoption across borders, including guidance for regulated sectors such as finance and health.
We are proud of the contributions of Gerard Quek, Papon Charoenpao, Mato Kotwani, Elizabeth W. and Lester Yee-Heng Kuo in supporting this important regional initiative and look forward to seeing these principles translated into practical implementation across ASEAN.
